Our Director
Dr. Ravi Kannan

A surgeon par excellence paving the way to innovative & affordable healthcare

Padma Shri awardee Dr. R. Ravi Kannan is the Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. Dr. Kannan is a surgical oncologist who previously served as the Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology at the prestigious Cancer Institute (WIA) in Chennai.

Moved by the plight of the economically impoverished people, who desperately need the services of the Cancer Hospital in Silchar, Dr. Kannan moved to Assam with his family to make cancer care more accessible in the Barak Valley. Before Cachar, the nearest cancer hospital was over 300 kms. away in Guwahati. Over the last 13 years, Dr. Kannan together with the entire team at the hospital has transformed the rural cancer centre into a full-fledged hospital and research centre. Innovations introduced in his endeavour to take inclusive cancer care to the masses include:

  • A holistic treatment approach that includes accommodation, food, employment, awareness and education.
  • Doorstep healthcare service including free home visits and satellite clinics.
