Established by social activists from diverse profession in 1992, the Cachar Cancer Hospital Society (CCHS) is a premier philanthropic and charitable not-for-profit NGO in North East India that is working to battle cancer. The society made humble start almost from scratch and relentlessly strived to develop essential infrastructure and establish and run a cancer detection and treatment centre at a place like Silchar, at the nerve centre of Barak Valley region. The first detection centre was started in a temporary rented room at NS Avenue, on January 23, 1993.

Surrounded by Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Bangladesh and Tripura, poor economic condition of the people, communication bottleneck, remote geographical locations, under-developed agriculture, industry and technology and more stood on the way of mobilization of financial resources necessary to develop a full –fledged Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. However, numerous people irrespective of cast, creed, religion and language came forward to help the society in its crusade against cancer.
